🌀 How to Move From Your Center in Aikido (Real Balance & Power)

Learning to move from your center is one of the most important skills in Aikido — but also one of the most misunderstood. In this week’s video, we look at why techniques often feel shaky, weak, or disconnected, especially under pressure, and how arm-driven movement creates tension long before the technique even begins.

I break down three major myths about “using your center,” explain what true tanden-led movement actually feels like, and show how your intention should radiate from the center → spine → limbs. We also explore how a small shift or tilt in the center can completely change the feeling of Ikkyo, Shihonage, and Kokyunage, making them lighter, smoother, and more unified.

You’ll also hear a personal story from my time living in Japan — the first time I was thrown by Yamaguchi Sensei, and the unforgettable experience of feeling his center drop into me like a weight, even though I couldn’t identify the exact point of contact. That moment changed how I understood center-led movement forever.

Whether you’re new to Aikido or looking to deepen your practice, this video will help you understand the mechanics, mindset, and subtlety behind moving from your center.
