🎥 WATCH: How Aikido Training Evolves Over Time

When you first start Aikido, your focus is simple:

Just get through class without getting hurt.

You’re trying to remember the movements, figure out which foot goes where, and survive your first attempts at ukemi.

But over time, something interesting happens.

Your training begins to shift — from survival…
to refinement…
to sensitivity, timing, and efficiency.

In this week’s video, I talk about how Aikido evolves as you train longer, and what students often experience at each stage of their journey.

If you’ve ever wondered why training feels different after a few years (or decades), this video may resonate with you.

Let’s check it out.

🌿 Your Practice Prompt

Next time you train, notice what you are focusing on.

Are you still trying to remember the steps?
Are you refining posture and relaxation?
Or are you beginning to feel timing and efficiency emerge?

Each stage of Aikido reveals something different.

Instead of rushing ahead, try this:

Pick one small refinement — maybe relaxing your shoulders, bending your knees more deeply, or paying attention to timing — and work on it throughout the class.

Over time, those small refinements accumulate into real transformation.

Share your experience—I read every reply.

🎥 WATCH: The Moment Aikido Starts Making Sense
Have you ever had a technique suddenly make sense after struggling with it for months—or even years? Most practitioners assume breakthroughs happen because they finally figured something out. But what if the breakthrough was quietly developing long before you noticed it? In this week's video, I explore why Aikido often progresses in sudden leaps, how repetition changes the body, and why some le...
🎥 WATCH: What changed my Aikido
For years, I watched senior Japanese Aikido teachers and noticed something that I couldn't quite explain. They often seemed to move less. They entered earlier. They stayed connected in a way that felt completely different. Recently, I had a realization that helped me understand one of those lessons more clearly—and it had nothing to do with technique. In this week's video, I share several obser...
🎥 WATCH: Why Soft Aikido Is More Difficult Than Most People Think
Soft Aikido often looks effortless from the outside. But in reality, it may be one of the hardest things to develop in training. In this week’s video, I talk about: why softness actually requires strong structure how tension disrupts timing and connection the hidden danger of “getting good” at forcing techniques why mature Aikido often looks simple only after years of repetition I also share ...
