đŸŽ„ WATCH: Why Trying Harder Can Actually Slow Your Aikido Progress

One of the most common mistakes beginners make in Aikido is simply trying too hard.

Not trying too hard to attend class.

Not trying too hard to improve.

But trying so hard in the technique itself that the body becomes tense and the partner gets overpowered.

In this week’s video, I talk about a few principles that can completely change how your training feels.

They involve structure, timing, and connection — and they often show up right when people stop forcing techniques.

If you've ever felt like you're working harder and harder but the technique still isn't flowing, this video may resonate.

🌿 Your Practice Prompt

In your next class, pay attention to where effort appears in your technique.

Instead of trying to throw your partner with more strength, focus on your alignment and structure. Ask yourself: Am I moving efficiently, or am I compensating with tension?

See what happens when you prioritize structure first and allow the technique to unfold from there.

Share your experience—I read every reply.

đŸŽ„ WATCH: The Skill Most Aikido Students Don’t Realize They’re Missing
Many Aikido students focus almost entirely on learning techniques. But there’s another skill that often gets overlooked—and it can make a huge difference in how quickly you improve. It’s the skill of how to watch. Experienced practitioners observe demonstrations very differently than beginners. They notice posture, timing, alignment, and connection—not just the obvious movements. In this week’s...
đŸŽ„ WATCH: Why Aikido Feels Impossible When You First Start Training
Many people watch Aikido and think it looks effortless. Then they step on the mat for the first time and suddenly it feels
almost impossible. Why does that happen? In this week’s training video, I explain one of the biggest reasons beginners struggle with Aikido—and why what you see in advanced practice can be very misleading. Understanding this can completely change how you approach your trai...
đŸŽ„ WATCH: Why In-Person Training Still Matters
This week I want to talk about something that’s becoming more relevant every year. We now have access to an incredible amount of Aikido information—videos, books, seminars online, and more. But there is still something essential about Aikido that can’t be transmitted through a screen. In this week’s video, I share why the real transmission of Aikido still happens in person—and why training with...
