đŸŽ„ WATCH: Why Soft Aikido Is More Difficult Than Most People Think

Soft Aikido often looks effortless from the outside.

But in reality, it may be one of the hardest things to develop in training.

In this week’s video, I talk about:

  • why softness actually requires strong structure
  • how tension disrupts timing and connection
  • the hidden danger of “getting good” at forcing techniques
  • why mature Aikido often looks simple only after years of repetition

I also share a story from training in Japan connected to Yamaguchi Sensei that deeply shaped how I think about softness and ukemi.

I hope the video gives you some ideas to explore in your own practice this week.

🌿 Your Practice Prompt

During your next class, pay attention to the exact moment you begin forcing a technique. Can you release unnecessary tension and reorganize your movement instead of pushing harder?

Share your experience—I read every reply.

đŸŽ„ WATCH: Aikido Trains Your Nervous System
Have you ever felt like your Aikido wasn't improving? Maybe you've even wondered whether you were getting worse. Most of us have experienced that feeling. In this week's video, I share one idea that completely changed how I think about long-term training. What if Aikido isn't primarily teaching techniques at all? What if every repetition is actually teaching your nervous system? That simple shi...
đŸŽ„ WATCH: Why Many Aikido Practitioners Continue Training for Life
Many martial arts students train for a few years and move on. But in Aikido, it's surprisingly common to meet practitioners who have been training for 20, 30, even 40 years. Why does that happen? In this week's video, I explore three reasons Aikido often becomes a lifelong practice, including a story from my years training in Japan that still stays with me today. If you've ever wondered why som...
đŸŽ„ WATCH: Why Some Aikido Students Improve Faster Than Others
Every dojo has them. The students who seem to improve faster than everyone else. Most people assume they're naturally talented. But after many years of teaching, I've noticed something different. The students who make the most progress often share a few habits that have nothing to do with athletic ability, flexibility, or natural gifts. In this week's video, I explore what those habits are and ...
